How to Install Apple TV + on Your Roku

The Apple TV app has been available on virtually every Apple device since the service launched, and has begun to appear on select Samsung smart TVs in the past couple of years. And as of today, Apple TV is (finally) available on a large number of Roku devices.

As for why Apple is forking, Apple is set to launch its Apple TV + service on November 1st . Like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video, Apple TV + will have its own library of exclusive shows you won’t find anywhere else. Consequently, having an official Apple TV app on Roku means that a huge roster of non-Apple products, including Roku-based streaming boxes, dongles, and smart TVs, will have access to Apple TV + and its exclusive content.

To install Apple TV on your Roku device, open the Roku app store , search for “Apple TV” and download the app. If you can’t pick it up, your Roku device might be too old. Currently , the following Roku devices can use the new Apple TV app:

  • Roku TV: 7000X, C000X, 8000X
  • Roku Smart Soundbar : 9101X
  • Intelligent sound bar Onn Roku: 9100X
  • Roku Express: 3900X, 3930X
  • Roku Express +: 3910X, 3931X
  • Roku HD: 3932X
  • Roku Streaming Stick : 3800X
  • Roku + Streaming Stick : 3810X, 3811X
  • Roku Premiere: 3920X, 4620X
  • Roku Premiere +: 3921X, 4630X
  • Roku Ultra: 4640X, 4660X, 4661X, 4670X
  • Roku Ultra LT: 4662X
  • Roku 2: 4205X, 4210X
  • Roku 3: 4200X, 4230X

You will need to create an Apple ID if you don’t already have one in order to use your Apple TV, but once you’re signed in, you can access your iTunes video library, and starting November 1, you can subscribe to Apple TV + for $ 5 per month. In the meantime, you can also subscribe to a range of other a la carte services such as HBO and Showtime through Apple TV channels.
