Make the Best Screwdriver With Curacao

A screwdriver is not a bad drink, but not the best drink either. The orange juice and vodka combination is easy to swallow, but I never thought, “You know what I really want right now? Damn screwdriver.

This is partly because orange juice is not really my favorite juice – it can be a little sour – but also a little tasteless. We can add a little flair, a little dimension, and a little more booze.

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao is a brandy-based liqueur infused with orange peel that is richer and more complex than most citrus liqueurs and – when mixed with fresh orange juice and vodka – produces a more orange flavor, but a more complex, well-dead orange flavoring. When shaken, it becomes fluffy, creamy, but the sour juice prevents it from becoming too sweet and syrupy. In short, very good. To make it you will need:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1/2 ounce dry curacao by Pierre Ferrand
  • 30 ml orange juice (fresh if possible)

Mix everything in an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake vigorously until the jar is too cold to hold comfortably. Strain into lowball with plenty of ice and enjoy.
