How to Know If the Police Are Using Doorbells to Monitor Your Area

Earlier this month, we learned that Amazon was talking to law enforcement about the possibility of giving them access to the video feed from doorbells to help make decisions on how to deploy emergency personnel and potentially create “crime news.” for an app for observing areas of Amazon, Neighbors.

Amazon posted a blog post this week about its work with law enforcement detailing 405 different law enforcement agencies currently working with the company on Neighbors.

These law enforcement agencies may be involved in viewing and commenting on public messages, or may request a video of an incident made by someone’s doorbell.

Along with this post, he also posted a map of all law enforcement agencies involved. You can see the screenshot below and also zoom in and out on the interactive map here .

In general, it’s good to just know that this is happening where you live.

You can get a more detailed explanation of how law enforcement can use the app here .
