How to Prepare Breakfast for Your Child in Advance

Morning with children is cruel. No matter how prepared you are or how early you manage to get yourself (and everyone else) out of bed, there is still so much struggle going on. So many teeth to brush, clothes to put on, things to pack, and nagging to ignore.

I love collecting meals the night before (the only thing I hate more than collecting school lunches for the night is collecting them in the morning), but a parent on Reddit takes cooking to the next level: she prepares her kids’ breakfasts in advance too – with cans …

I cook breakfast for my kids and it helps me get better. This morning I was helping my child with homework instead of wandering around the kitchen. Kids love choosing a jar and putting the finishing touches on more than what I want to cook.

She offers her children three options:

  • Oatmeal made with oatmeal, peanut butter, honey, vanilla, and salt. In the morning, pour in boiling water, let stand for about 3 minutes and stir. (Obviously, you may need to help with the boiling water, depending on how old / capable your child is.)
  • A smoothie (sometimes berry mix, sometimes chocolate peanut butter) made with soy milk, protein powder, a mixture of berries, vanilla, and salt. Add banana and ice in the morning; mix until smooth.
  • Yogurt cups made with mixed berries, yoghurt and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Just stir in the morning.

Night oats and no-bake energy balls are also good preparation options. And if you really want your breakfast to be served impeccably, you can also set the table the night before .

That’s it: you now have more time to think about other things in the morning.
