Your Child’s Contigo Water Bottle Can Be Choking

Contigo recalled 5.7 million of its popular silicone spout baby water bottles because in some cases the spout could detach and cause choking.

The voiced bottles are in the style of “Kids Washable Water Bottles” and are sold in packs of 1, 2 or 3 bottles from April 2018 to June 2019. They came in a variety of sizes (13 ounces, 14 ounces, and 20 ounces) and a variety of colors, materials, and graphics.

All affected bottles have a black spout base and a black spout cap, for example:

Contigo has published a step-by-step guide to bottle cap testing; if there is a problem, you can order a replacement cover through the company’s website .

While Contigo says no injuries were reported, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says the company has received 149 reports of spout peelings, including 18 spouts found in children’s mouths.

The Commission recommends that parents discard the recalled bottles, collect them from their children and order replacement caps.
