How to Get Canceled From Tropical Storm Dorian

As of Wednesday morning, Tropical Storm Dorian is approaching both the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Some Puerto Rican residents have already been evacuated to shelters in preparation for the storm, according to CNN .

Just ahead of Labor Day, the storm is also expected to intensify in a Category 2 hurricane and will likely landfall in Florida on Sunday or Monday. If you have plans to travel to Florida – or indeed anywhere in the Caribbean – you might want to rethink your itinerary. In response to potential travel disruptions due to the storm, several airlines offer free flights, so you can rebook your flight without a change fee. Below you will find detailed information on denials for several major US airlines:

american airlines

  • Applicable for travel before August 29th.
  • To participate, you must book your ticket by August 26th.
  • You must rebook your dates before September 6th.
  • Applicable for travel to / from the following cities: Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI), Cap Haiti, Haiti (CAP), Fort de France, Martinique (FDF), Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP), Puerto Plata , Dominican Republic (POP), Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ), San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ), Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia (UVF)
  • You can change your trip online ; just find your route and check if you qualify for the free change.

Delta Airlines

  • Applicable for travel before August 29 or 31, depending on destination.
  • To participate, you must book your ticket by August 26th.
  • You must rebook your dates by September 5th or September 7th, depending on your destination.
  • If you are traveling to / from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ), Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP), San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ) or Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia (UVF), you can apply for a waiver of travel rights by August 29th.
  • If you are traveling to / from Georgetown, Bahamas (GGT), Marsh Harbor, Bahamas (MNH), Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) or Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (PLS), you can apply to waiver travel plans by August … 31.
  • To change your trip, view “My Trips” on the Delta website , enter your trip information and “Change Flight”. Select “Start Flight Change”. As Delta notes, the change fee may show up initially, but once you choose a new route, the fee will be canceled pending order.

JetBlue

  • Applicable for travel before August 29th.
  • To participate, you must book your ticket by August 26th.
  • You must rebook the date on or before September 1st.
  • If you are traveling to / from Aguadilla, PR (BQN), La Romana, DR (LRM), Ponce, PR (PSE), Puerto Plata, DR (POP), Punta Cana, DR (PUJ), San Juan, PR ( SJU), Santiago, DR (STI) or Santo Domingo, DR (SDQ), you can apply for a waiver.
  • To change your flight, simply visit the JetBlue website .

Southwest

  • Applies to specific travel dates depending on the destination.
  • You must rebook your dates within 14 days of your original flight.
  • If you are traveling to / from Providenciales, the Turks and Caicos Islands (PLS), Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ), or San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), you may be eligible to waive travel plans by August 30th.
  • If you are traveling to / from Nassau, Bahamas (NAS), you may be eligible to waive travel plans by September 1st.
  • If you are traveling to / from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL), Orlando, Florida (MCO) or West Palm Beach, Florida (PBI) between August 31st and September 2nd, you may be eligible for a waiver.

Spirit airlines

  • Applicable for travel before August 30th.
  • You must rebook your dates no later than September 5th.
  • Applicable for travel to / from the following cities: Aguadilla, PR (BQN), Port-au-Prince, HT (PAP), Punta Cana, DO (PUJ), Santo Domingo, DO (SDQ), San Juan, PR (SJU)) and Santiago, DO (STI).
  • Visit the Spirit website to change your flight (and search for “Travel Management”).

United airlines

  • Applicable for travel before August 29th.
  • To participate, you must book your ticket by August 26th.
  • Requires rebooking for dates before September 1st.
  • Applies to travel to / from the following cities: Aguadilla, PR, USA (BQN), Punta Cana, DO (PUJ), and San Juan, PR, USA (SJU).
  • You can change your flight online .
