Watch a Heartbreaking Short Film on How to Pack Your Suitcase

Learn how to pack your suitcase effectively and maybe cry while you’re on it. Based on flash fiction by author Ron Kertge, this heart-warming, still-short film is about family and loss, and how to fit everything into your luggage.

Negative space opens with the following packaging tips:

Dad taught me to collect: to lay out everything. Put back half. Roll things that roll. Top with cotton items prone to creases. Then the pants, from the waist to the hem. Sock corners. Serpentine straps on the sides. Plastic on top of this. Add shoes. Wear heavy items on the plane.

It illustrates these elements in time-lapse animations that are enjoyable to look at and, more prosaically, will help you remember tips the next time you travel.

But if you have kids, this short film will also put youin the “Cat in the Cradle” mood . This is what happens when you learn life hacks from fiction .
