Celebrate My Birthday With This Bitter Herbal Drink

I celebrate my birthday since Sunday, and this is due to a considerable amount of booze. I had a margarita in Mississippi , Viuex Carré at the Carousel bar, and a really chilly grasshopper here in Portland. Now, in typical Leo fashion, I ask you to continue celebrating with me some of my favorite things.

You don’t technically need to drink what I drink to celebrate, but you should probably. This cocktail, which we might also call “My Favorite Things,” is basically a white Negroni , but made with aquavit instead of gin. It has all that bittersweet, herbaceous goodness of gentian with hints of caraway and dill. There is a lot going on, but as with Dorito, it simply means that one scent doesn’t stay on the tongue for too long. It’s also quite sturdy, which is good for celebration, and yellow, which I look very good in. To make it you will need:

  • 1 1/2 oz aquavit
  • 3/4 oz Avèze
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth

Pour everything into a glass filled with ice and stir until completely cooled and diluted (at least 60 times). Get in the compartment and drink to me if you feel like it.
