How to Make Your Own Big Mac Sauce

McDonald’s Big Mac sauce is one of the most iconic condiments, but there is no reason why it should be limited to McDonald’s cutlets, even if they are “all beef”. Although the official ” leaked recipe ” is a long list of oils, corn syrup, stabilizers, emulsifiers, flavors and preservatives – like most mass-produced sauces – you can make something very similar (and just as iconic) using regular ingredients.

Personally, I was never interested in McDonald’s “special” sauce because I always assumed it was a Thousand Island dressing. I’m also not entirely sure why one should make this sauce at home because – unlike a certain Sichuan sauce inspired by Disney movies – this Mac (sauce) has never disappeared.

But since this is the Internet, an enterprising blogger named Kelly Brinker has created a recipe that seems to be pretty darn close to the real thing. (It’s not exactly Thousand Island, but it looks a lot like it .) To test the truth of this claim, I made a batch and tried it. To make the sauce, Kelly uses:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons sweet marinade
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons French dressing
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped white onion
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

I poured all of these lovely ingredients into a bowl, mixed and refrigerated overnight so that all the flavors merge together.

After the required period of time in the fridge, I removed the sauce for a visual inspection and I have to admit that it looked the same and tasted very special, with the only real difference that there are no real onion pieces in the McDonald’s version, but I don’t know. that it would be a violation of the deal for someone. So yeah, it’s an A + clone of McDonald’s Big Mac sauce. This is great news for anyone looking to make their own Big Macs, or anyone looking to add a little McDonald’s “I can’t believe this is technically food” magic to their home kitchen. Seriously though, it’s pretty good and I will add it to a lot of burgers.
