Return to the Sound of Your Favorite Old Analogue Device on “Conserve the Sound”

I am very happy to live in a time where I can just hop on the internet anytime, instead of dialing and waiting for the modem to do its little hookup gig, which took so long that you could start dialing, go do anything else and come back when it’s almost over.

However, I really appreciate what it was like to use the old technology. And while it’s easy to get nostalgic by going to YouTube and finding someonetrying to use a dial-up modem these days , there are even better resources out there if you want a little reminder of what your favorite fanatical gear sounds like. back when.

My colleague Michelle pointed me to the German website Conserve the Sound the other day, and I already like it. When you pick it up, you are immediately greeted by a select gallery of old gadgets – cameras, typewriters, phones, NES and so on. Unfortunately, you won’t find a modem here (yet), so you’ll have to keep heading to YouTube to experience thethrill of the noise of the handshake .

Click on the device and you can hear the audio recording of the device while you watch a beautiful little slideshow with great pictures of everything you are listening to. Some of these audio clips are short examples of the device being used for its intended purpose , while others are more ASMR-like recordings of someone tinkering with an object in any way.

My lovely? Of course , Klick-Klack Kugeln- . I’m also partial to Büchereistempel , which reminds me of SCUMM’s 1989 hitIndiana Jones and the Last Crusade: A Graphic Adventure , as well as the classic View-Master that everyone is likely to remember at some point.
