Start Your Weekend With a Low-Strength Purple Syringe

Wine spritzers have a reputation for hockey, but like most things that are called “girly,” they are damn delicious. They are also a great, low-nutrient drink for when you want to drink something without ruining your mood the next day.

I say weak because I like to add Crème Yvette, a purple liqueur made with raspberries and blackberries, to my spritzers. When mixed with dry rose and a little seltzer water, you get a drink very similar to Kir Royale (which requires champagne with a capital C), only slightly less potent and much cheaper.

This purple syringe can be built right into a glass and you can either add ice or just chill your wine and seltzer water by placing it in the freezer for 45 minutes or so. To make this cute purple drink, you will need:

  • 4 ounces chilled dry or dry rosé wine
  • 1 oz Crème Yvette
  • 2 ounces chilled soda water

Add the first two ingredients to a glass or wine glass and stir. Top with chilled sparkling water and garnish if desired. A strip of lemon peel looks very sophisticated, but I wouldn’t blame you for tossing seasonal berries into the glass.
