What’s the Biggest Scam in Your City?

There are children in New York who come with a registration sheet and ask for donations to buy uniforms for their school basketball team. There is no school basketball team. You can buy the Chateau Diana “wine product” at a New York drugstore, but you never get drunk from it. Fancy restaurants will offer you more fish than you ordered to drive up the price. And the governor “saved” the city from a 15-month train stop, actually making it worse . But your city can beat that, right?

What’s the biggest, most dangerous, or most annoying scam in your city? What’s a bad deal that’s so bad it’s immoral? What lies are people telling to get your money or your efforts? What switch did the local politicians make? What merchandise did the richest people in the city sell to the rest of you?

And how to avoid this scam, fight it or recover from it? What’s your trick? Have you ever cheated on a scammer? How to close the fraudster without aggravating the situation? (For example, calling the police for basketball kids is a ridiculous move.) Finally, what looks like a scam, but is it actually good?
