How to Check for Speed Limits, Speed Limits and Accidents on Google Maps

Starting today, Google Maps is expanding its capabilities to travel to other regions. The app will now display the speed limit for the roads you are currently driving, as well as the location of various key traffic information such as accidents, mobile speed trackers and traffic cameras in over 40 countries.

Speed limits are displayed in the lower left corner of Google Maps during navigation mode, and the app will give you a verbal warning if there is an accident, slowdown, or speed limiter ahead of you. Here’s how users can manually add the location of speed traps or other traffic information to the app:

  1. Enter navigation mode in Google Maps by entering an address and clicking on directions, or by pressing the blue “Go” button on the main Google Maps screen and setting a destination by clicking “Start”.
  2. In navigation mode, tap the speech bubble “+” icon (third icon, bottom right).
  3. Select the type of message you want to make (crash, speed trap or deceleration).
  4. The app will start adding the report to the map, although you have a short countdown window to cancel the report if you want to cancel.

These features have long been present in other navigation services such as Google’s Waze app, but have been limited to certain regions on Google Maps. This new update expands all functions for all regions of the United States and the following countries: Andorra, Australia, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy. , Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia , United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.

All of these new features are added on the server side, which means the user doesn’t need any app updates or settings changes to enable them – they just appear right in Google Maps, ready to go. However, the deployment may not be complete everywhere, so keep checking the app if you are not yet able to use the new traffic features. And of course, if you want to check the map or add information on the road, don’t try to do it while driving – delegate this task to the person sitting in the passenger seat.
