Read to the Children While They Are in the Bath.

There really isn’t a bad time or place to read to a child (okay maybe while scuba diving or during root canal treatment, but you get what I mean). However, when my daughter was younger, in one of the best storytelling scenarios during the story, I stuck her in the bathtub, grabbed a stack of books, and flopped onto the covered toilet or stool.

Reading to your young child while he bathes is great because 1) you multitask, 2) your child is contained (he has no choice but to listen to your dramatic performance by Grifalo ), and 3) if he is nervous, he can play with toys and splash, plunging into a fairy tale. The procedure can take an hour or more – or as long as the water remains warm.

Bonus: if you start reading a really fun book, your child may even be looking forward to bathing. Be sure to use this to your advantage. “Hey, if you want to know the fate of Wilbur, you need to wash behind your ears …”
