What to Drink If Aperol Is Too Sweet for Your Very Sophisticated Taste

Most often I change Aperol to Campari because I like a little bitterness in my drink, even in summer.

But if you crave a truly bitter and herbal drink – which I often do – consider leaving the spritz entirely and combining three more bitter liquors to make one, although aggressive, in my bitter opinion, quite drinkable. The triple threat of Amaro Campari, Cynar and Fernet is similar to Ferrari , but slightly softer as the Cynar adds a bit of woody sweetness to the other two. It polarizes, but if you have an extremely mature and sophisticated taste that saccharin just can’t stand , this might be your new favorite. To make it you will need:

  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 ounce cinar
  • 1 ounce fernet

Combine everything in an ice ball or one large cube. Stir in a glass until it has cooled slightly, then take slow, invigorating sips. This drink is especially good at the end of a long night, especially if you need to invigorate or calm your stomach.
