Transform Your Toddler Into Big Kid Underwear With Maxi Pads

In the last step of potty training, when your baby almost understands this and you start dreaming of a diaper-free life, you may be tempted to turn to pull-ups. These disposable sweatpants should look and feel like underwear, theoretically making the little ones who wear them think, “Hey, maybe I shouldn’t be peeing right now.”

But pull-ups are 1) expensive and 2) still diapers. For many kids, simply replacing the Velcro straps with an elastic waistband is not enough to make them run to the toilet, like the rest of us are dummies if they don’t need it. I am a devout preacher of the 3 Day Potty Training Method where you cut diapers out of cold turkey. But you may not be ready for this and want to play it safe a little. In this case, I love this trick from Reddit user Armorpiercing44, who suggests putting sanitary pads in baby’s underwear . (Parents recommend using panty liners, but one commenter points out that they don’t provide much protection against “sneezing tinkles,” let alone a potty accident. Thin pads will do the job better.)

Maxi pads are less expensive than suspenders and more importantly, allow your kids to say goodbye to diapers by making them think that a change is taking place. (You can even hold a farewell ceremony to mark the transition.) Don’t make too much of a notepad there — it’s just a small buffer. Then, as your child is more confident in using the toilet, you can switch to panty liners. Because, dear parents, now that you have finished the diaper phase, you are ready for a life with skid marks in toddlers!
