How to Get Rid of Wrinkles in Leather Shoes

When you have a great pair of shoes, you want to show them off. But the more you wear them, the worse they look – frayed and ruined by ugly folds.

This week Twitter user @shanteldebonsu posted her tips for removing annoying creases in the shaft of a shoe.

The hack works for shoes made entirely of leather. You’ll need:

  • hot water
  • Iron
  • a small towel or cloth
  • socks, old clothes, or tissue paper to stuff into shoes

First stuff the shoes with socks / old clothes / tissue paper “to the point where you no longer see the crease and when you press down on the top of the shoe it won’t move.”

Then dampen a small towel with hot water and squeeze out that water to keep the towel just damp. Place a towel over your shoes and iron the crease through the towel.

That being said, it is easy to burn the shoes, which definitely negates the whole goal. To prevent this from happening, keep the iron and towel up to keep track of your progress.

If it was confusing, Chantelle also posted a video on YouTube showing how it’s done:

From Twitter, it works! Some people responded to Chantelle’s original post with photos of their shoes without creases.
