Get a Keyboard Decoy for Your Cat

Cats love to sit on things. Not the things you buy so they can sit, no, the things you need to use. The magazines you read, the puzzles you solve, and the keyboard you try to type on are just a few of their favorite things to sit on. Sometimes it’s cute and sometimes it’s not, which is why I really like the idea of a “decoy keyboard” for a cat.

This maneuver, which I saw on the Facebook page of my mom’s clinic (she is a veterinarian), is quite clever. Older keyboards are very cheap – they can be found at Goodwill or any thrift store with an electronic branch, and having one close at hand allows your cat to do what he likes (being super-annoying) without getting in the way. Heck, I could buy a pair and place them in different places in my apartment, just to see what sticks.

One cool thing about cats is that they all have their own unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies, so where you put the keyboard can play a role in how effective this little trick there. In front of the monitor (as shown above), with the real keyboard on the drawer at the bottom, this is probably most effective as this is where you need to look, but you can try moving it slowly aside or just hope and pray that your cat decided to lie down, which she probably won’t do. (This is the nature of the beast.)
