Don’t Change Your Twitter Date of Birth to 2007

There is a new joke on Twitter that says if you change your birthday to 2007, the year Twitter launched, you can unlock a new color scheme, get admin rights on the platform, get paid, or even get yourself the coveted blue checked checkmark. There is only one problem: this will effectively result in you being excluded from Twitter for being a minor.

To have a Twitter account, you must be at least 13 years old. If you were born in 2007, you would be only 12 years old, which is less than a year to have an account.

According to The Verge , the prank was so widespread that Twitter support issued a warning telling people not to do it.

If you fall prey to a gimmick, all is not lost. Twitter claims that you can restore your account by contacting Twitter support and uploading a photo of your government ID, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of Twitter withdrawal.
