Share Your Event With the New Google Maps Feature

The days of using Facebook to advertise your events may end soon as Google begins rolling out a new feature that allows users to add their own public events to Google Maps. You can stream major local events, restaurant openings, art gallery debuts, or other big events without the need to send out spam invitations or social media posts .

Public events have long been featured on Google Maps, allowing you to view upcoming events from a long list of categories such as concerts, nightlife, classes, nature and more. Likewise, public events created by users will be displayed on the map and are searchable by all Map users through the Events tab.

As noted by Android Police , the event generation feature appears to be rolling out to Android only for now, and there is no official word yet on when to expect support on other platforms. If your Google Maps app doesn’t allow you to add your own public events, try checking for available updates on Google Play . It is also possible that this feature has not yet been rolled out to your location or specific device.

How to create and edit a public event in Google Maps

  1. Open Google Maps on your Android device.
  2. Click on the hamburger icon and click on Your Contributions and then Events> Add Public Event .

  4. Once you have created your event, you can edit it by returning to the Events tab, selecting the event you created, clicking Edit this event and changing the event details. You can also click “Delete this event” to delete a public event you created earlier.

How to share public events and invite friends

  1. To invite friends to an event, open the event’s Maps page and tap the Share icon .
  2. Select the app to share the event like SMS, messaging, Gmail, etc., then select your contacts and send the invitation.
  3. Your contacts will be able to add the event to their Google Calendar by clicking Add to Calendar, and they will receive automatic reminders next to the event.
