How to Read a Summary of the Mueller Report by the Department of Justice

On Sunday, Attorney General William Barr presented his summary of the key findings of Special Attorney Robert Mueller’s investigation of the 2016 presidential election. If you want to familiarize yourself with all of this, you can read it here .

Barr says he intends to release as much of the report as possible, but before it is released, he and Mueller will clean up the report to remove classified testimony from the grand jury, as well as any content related to ongoing investigations. All this suggests that we can wait a bit.

Six of Trump’s aides have already been charged or found guilty of crimes ranging from conspiracy to lying to investigators, and last year an investigation brought charges against 25 Russian intelligence officials and experts in social media manipulation.

One important takeaway from what we know now is that Barr says that no additional indictments or any secret indictments have been filed, so the ones that have already been made public will be so.

The investigation found that neither Trump nor his aides colluded or coordinated with the Russian government during the 2016 elections, but did not draw any conclusions as to whether Trump was illegally obstructing justice. According to The New York Times , investigators were unable to find sufficient evidence that Trump actually committed the crime, but did not manage to justify it.

On Sunday afternoon, Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, tweeted that “in light of some very serious inconsistencies and a final decision in the Justice Department following the Special Adviser’s report in which Mueller did not acquit the President, we will call the Attorney General. Barr to testify in front of @HouseJudiciary in the near future. “
