How to Bake an Egg in a Toaster

There is something elegant and tender about a baked egg sprinkled with a pinch of cheese and sprinkled with fresh herbs. Crimped eggs – the fancy name for baked eggs – seem special, but they can be cooked in minutes in a toaster, making them the perfect light breakfast for one (or two if you like other people around in the morning).

Can they be cooked in a conventional oven? Yes, and if you’re making baked eggs for the crowd, this is the right way to go. But turning on the entire oven for a couple of eggs seems tricky, and the toaster does it. To make a couple of these yolk jam stunners, you will need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 pinches of your favorite cheese (Parmesan and Feta are a lot of fun).
  • Salt and pepper for flavor
  • Fresh herbs to garnish, such as garlic or thyme.
  • Lubricating oil

Preheat the oven to 350 ℉, and grease a couple of molds with butter. Gently break an egg into each cookie cutter, then sprinkle with a tablespoon of heavy cream. Sprinkle large pinches of cheese, season with salt and pepper, and place in the toaster until white, about 9-12 minutes. Remove from oven, cool for a few minutes, and sprinkle with fresh herbs of your choice. Serve with toast or toasted bread. Live tasty.
