Helping Indonesia Tsunami Survivors

Last Saturday, the eruption of the Anak Krakatoa volcano in Indonesia triggered a tsunami that killed more than 400 people and displaced 20,000 more. According to The Guardian , the authorities have rerouted planes around the volcano, which is threatening with a new eruption. Here’s what you can do to help the victims of this natural disaster.

First, it’s best to donate money. You can check the charities you donate to with the Charity Navigator , which measures how well money is being distributed by nonprofits. If possible, donate directly rather than text messages, even if it seems easier; According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , charities often have to wait for the telephone companies to hand out money, which delays aid. Here are a few organizations to consider for donations.

GlobalGiving

… Whether it’s specifically for tsunami and earthquake recovery , or for other worthy goals like saving orangutans, or saving slow lorises, or saving street kids from a life of poverty .
