What’s in Store for and Out of Netflix in December 2018
Here’s a cool phenomenon: the Netflix Christmas episode. This month, in addition to too many original shows and films, Netflix is rolling out Christmas episodes for existing shows, including Nailed It! “Blood-curdling adventure Sabrina”, “Neo Yokio” Ezra Koenig and the “Prince of Peoria: Christmas miracle moose.”
The specials are great, but honestly, slow down Netflix! Even without special offers and imports that Netflix calls originals, the site is releasing over 30 seasons of original TV this month. We’ll do our best to highlight the most promising as well as the best films and shows in existence that are finally available on Netflix.
Peculiarities
Cinema
Some great films are coming this month: Cloudy With Chance of Meatballs, Hellboy, The Big Lebowski, Dead Sean, District 9, Theory of Everything, and It’s All by Michael Jackson. And Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle could be the second good real-time adaptation of The Jungle Book in three years.
Shows
There isn’t a lot of outside TV this month, but highlights include Wizards Season 3 and Anthony Bourdin Season 11 .
In the original, Fuller House returns in season 4 (!). Netflix is doubling down on Narcos with Inside the Real Narcos (where you’ll supposedly find swallowed balloons full of cocaine). And there is a new Terrace House .
We haven’t heard of Inside the Harshest Prisons in the World , which is now entering its third season – is it just a new title, Orange Is the New Black ? Guys, this show is too dark for us! Bring comedy back to drama!
The new series Back Street Girls: Gokudols sounds interesting: “To pay for an epic mistake, three yakuza brothers are forced to change their bodies, form a girl group, and break into the underground J-Pop idol scene.”
Comedy
Wasn’t Netflix supposed to be chock full of sitcoms? All we see in this month’s lineup are Ellen DeGeneres and Vir Das. Who will succeed, it is obvious, even if they are a little lonely.
Last call
If you want to see Hellraiser , the story of why you should never buy puzzle boxes from Cracker Barrel, then make it before December 1st. Groundhog Day, The Game, and the seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy will also disappear on this day.
Three days later, many of the children’s items disappear, including three Tinkerbells , two Brave Little Toasters, and four Air Buds . Then, within a month, Netflix loses Battle Royale , Step Up 2: The Streets , Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy , Food Inc. , Spotlight and Moana .
