If you’re ready to live through multiple commercials, YouTube now offers several movies on its site that you can stream for free.
The free movie collection officially launched in October, but has begun to gain attention in the past few days. While you won’t find any new releases, there are a few movies you might actually want to watch. The collection currently includes Legally Blonde , The Terminator and several Rocky films, among others.
Films are available through partnerships with film studios, so the collection is subject to change. When you watch it, the advertisement will be displayed throughout the entire viewing period, as if you were watching a movie on TV.
You can check out the complete collection of free materials here . It’s worth noting that this page is the only place where you can see all the free movies grouped together. If you try to sort things by genre, you end up with movies that you have to pay rent or buy together.
And this may just be the beginning of YouTube promotional films. In an interview with AdAge Rohit Dhawan, director of product management at YouTube, he said that in the future we can see how advertisers will use the platform to fund certain movies. For example, you might be able to watch a recent issue for free if you want to watch multiple toilet paper commercials.
