How to Build a Cheap Air Purifier

A high-quality HEPA air purifier can remove almost all smoke, dust, or allergens from the air in a room, but a tricky $ 30 device can eliminate about 90 percent. It is worth trying if you need to clean indoor air cheaply.

To assemble the cleaner you will need:

  • 20-inch box fan (about $ 15-20 new, or maybe you have one lying around)
  • Oven filter 20 by 20 inches rated MERV-13, FPR 10, or MPR 1500-1900 (also about $ 15-20)
  • Tape for attaching two

In this video, Jeffrey Terrell, director of the Michigan Center for the Study of sines Health System , University of Michigan , shows how the cleaner made their hands , compared with the factory model for $ 800. It’s not that good, but much better than nothing.

Having created such a system, you can place it in the bedroom or anywhere else where you need the air to be as clean as possible. This type of filter captures particles as small as 1/3 micron, which is sufficient for many allergens and large amounts of smoke particles from forest fires . However, no filter can protect against carbon monoxide or irritating gases, so make sure you protect yourself in every possible way.
