Keep Warm With This Cider Cocktail

Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. We’re making our first reader recommended cocktail this week and it’s a good one.

Even on the coldest evenings, I’m not a big fan of warm alcohol – I like it when my drink warms me chemically, not physically – but I love seasonal drinks. I don’t drink a lot of strong cider at all, which I have found to be very popular at this time of year. (Even dry foods are usually too sweet.) But when a very good reader named Karl wrote about mixing it with rye and dry orange liqueur, I thought, “Oh, yes. Good.”

According to Karl: “This is a great warming cocktail that is especially good for cool autumn nights. The spice of rye and spicy orange liqueur add depth to the cider, while dry whiskey and liqueur reduce the sweetness of the cider. ” Karl uses New Holland Spirits Clockwork Orange, a spicy liqueur for extra autumn freshness, but I tried it with Dry Curaçao and it turned out to be quite pleasant. To do it yourself, you will need:

  • 2 ounces rye whiskey
  • 30 g dry spicy orange liqueur
  • Dry strong cider to the top

You can simply mix the whiskey and liqueur together in a glass and pour the cider on top, or you can get a little more complicated and mix the first two ingredients together in a shaker with one large ice cube, then strain into the glass and pour the cider. top. Take a sip, drop into the pile of leaves, and head out to the pumpkin patch or something. (Oh, and if you also have a cocktail that you would like to share with the class, feel free to send it to me. I like these emails a lot more than the ones I usually get.)
