How to Survive Long Flights?

Over the next few months, I have a couple of six-plus-hour flights ahead of me, and I’ve started taking notes on how to survive the long flights. It has been several years since I was on an international trip, and although I could sleep more or less the entire trip in college and high school, I have a latent suspicion that sleep will not come so easily this time.

There are some good tips in this Wall Street Journal post (I’m especially interested in the first placement recommendation, although I’m not sure if I’m crazy about sitting all the way in the back, right by the bathroom), but I’m curious: what are your tips. how to survive long flights?

Right now I am planning:

  • Listening to podcasts (have recommendations?) And noise canceling music, bluetooth headphones
  • While reading a book
  • Logging
  • Sleep

I also have a collection of travel moisturizers and balms to make sure my skin doesn’t dry out, and since I’m generally a restless person, I plan on stretching and walking around the cabin periodically.

What else am I missing? How do you deal with the long flights and the jet lag that most likely comes with them?
