How to Get Customizable Quick Settings and Notifications Without Updating to Android Pie

If you’ve updated to Android Pie, you’ve probably discovered a lot of new features on your device, as well as some new visual changes. One of the coolest changes is the ability to change the look, color and layout of the quick settings menu and the display of notifications.

It’s a great addition that Pie brings with it, but the key to this feature is updating your device to run Android Pie. And since Android Pie isn’t available to everyone yet, you may not have access to the new quick settings and notification features. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find other ways to achieve the same effect, even if you’re using an older version of Android.

This is a pretty simple solution too – all you have to do is just download the app from the Google Play Store and then tweak some settings after installing it.

The Power Shade app is specially designed to mimic the look and feel of the Anroid Pie quick settings interface and contains many options to change the look and layout just like in Android Pie. In our experience, the app looks great and is incredibly easy to use despite the many options available. Here’s how to download and configure it.

Download and Install Power Shade

To get started, open the Google Play Store on your device and search for Power Shade (or better yet, open the Power Shade store page here ). Click the install button to start the download.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the app, you may notice that there is an option to upgrade to the Pro version through an in-app purchase for $ 4.95. The main difference between the free version and the Pro version is the level of customization available to the user. The good news is that the free version will implement the visuals we’re aiming for without having to shell out any money. However, this does not override the Pro version. In fact, it might be worth spending a few bucks on it if you’re looking for more limited customization, such as adjusting the transparency level or gaining access to advanced layout options.

Enabling and configuring Power Shade

The next step is to enable Power Shade on your device. To do this, open the app and the first screen you see will be a simple menu with the option to enable Power Shade. By default, the application is set to Not Working. To enable, lightly tap the small slider icon next to this option.

After launching the application, you need to change its permissions. For an app to work, it must be granted permissions to access write, draw, notifications, and accessibility features.

The last step is to customize the app to your liking. There are four different menus — Triggers, Colors, Layout, and Advanced — where you can customize the app and notification effects to your liking. Be aware that some of the more advanced options will require an upgrade to the pro version.

Once you’ve configured everything to match your desired look, your phone should now look like it’s running Android Pie.
