Turn Off Restaurant Recommendations on Google Maps
In recent months, Google Maps has been pretty aggressive about telling me where there are restaurants that he thinks I should try, or new places opening in my area – and I hate that. As it turns out, I really don’t need an app to tell me what’s going on around me, and with every hot tip I get more and more annoyed.
If you’re like me and don’t want to receive recommendations from the app, there is an easy way to turn off these notifications.
Launch Google Maps first and then click on the hamburger button in the upper left corner of the search bar (three lines are stacked one above the other). From there, choose Settings from the sidebar menu and then Notifications.
From the Notifications menu, you’ll want to select Discovery to display a list of all the fun and interesting things that Google Maps can notify you about. In this menu, just disable the ones you no longer need. Or, you know, turn them off all because they are unpleasant. That’s all!
And if the type of notification that annoys you isn’t on the list, dig a little through the notification menu and see if you can find the intruder. Maps has a million different ways to notify you, but almost all of them can be turned off if you want.
