Amazon Reading App for Kids Is Now Free
Do you know those viral videos where it looks like you are following a text conversation? Their satisfaction is different, but it is difficult to refuse them. It’s kind of a concept for Amazon Rapids , a chat storytelling app for kids ages 5 to 12. Young readers watch the stories unfold in text bubbles. The app used to cost $ 2.99 a month, but it’s now free on iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices.
There are hundreds of original, professional voice-over stories to choose from, ranging in age and interest. For the youngest readers, many fairy tales are extremely simplified (“This red candy is hot. Hot, hot, hot”), but each word stands out as it is spoken, which can interest them and help their brain make connections. To move the story, they either click on the character (in reading mode) or scroll (in scrolling mode).
The app also has a built-in glossary so kids can search for definitions and hear pronunciation as they read, as well as the option to include a dyslexic-friendly font. Moms and dads can check the parent dashboard for information on the number of words their kids have read and the types of stories they like.
Families can also listen to the most popular Amazon Rapids stories with the free Alexa Storytime skill. Just say, “Alexa, tell me a bedtime story” and grab a pillow.
