Why You Need to Check Mars This Weekend

Starting this weekend, you will be able to see Mars, big and bright – brighter than it has been since 2003. This is not to be missed.

In particular, the planet will be brightest from July 27 to 30. All you have to do is go outside at night and look up to see it all. According to Sky & Telescope , the Sun, Mars and Earth will be Lined up on July 31 at 3:50 am ET, when Mars is brightest. You should expect it to be very bright and reddish orange.

If for some reason you cannot go outside or clouds block your view, there is an opportunity to watch Mars online. You can stream it on Space.com , which went live on July 26 at 10 p.m. ET. If you are a Slooh member, you can always go directly to their website and watch it there.

And if you can’t see it this weekend, Mars will shine until September – just not so much. And after that, you will have to wait until 2020 to see Mars at this brightness level again.
