How to Use Smart Netflix Downloads on Android

Downloading Netflix straight to your device is great – right up until the moment you run out of space and have to manually delete every episode of Queer Eye to make room for the new season of Nailed It . But with Netflix’s latest feature, Smart Downloads , Netflix will queue up the next episode of your favorite show while deleting the ones you’ve already watched.

The process (which is currently only available for Android devices) is pretty intuitive.

  • Download the first two episodes of any show.
  • Watch the first episode.
  • Netflix will immediately download the third episode of the show and delete the first while you watch the second.

While watching the third episode, while the second is removed. And so on – if your device is connected to the Internet, of course. This provides a fairly smoother browsing experience, much less time wasted worrying about what to download now and what to download later.

If you don’t want episodes to be removed automatically, click the Downloads icon, select Smart Downloads, and turn this option off.

Since Smart Downloads only works when your device is connected to a network, it may not be the best choice for long trips where your normal Wi-Fi connection is limited. But if you can surf the Internet even occasionally, you can make sure you have the next episode downloaded so you don’t have to wait for the next hot spot to find out what’s going on on Mindhunter.
