How to Get Trackpad Features on an Old IPhone With IOS 12

Ah, 3D Touch, pressure-sensitive function of Apple smartphone. The artist, formerly (creepy?) Known as Force Touch, offers additional options for iPhone users who support it. For example, tap on the left edge of the screen to open the app switcher. Click on the app home screen icon to open shortcuts. Click on the keyboard to move the cursor anywhere.

The latter option is both fun and very useful if you’ve ever had trouble getting your cursor where you want to while editing a text message. Now, in iOS 12, iPhones that don’t have 3D Touch can also access this feature.

Discovered by Reddit user Toprelemons , iOS 12 beta users – on devices without 3D Touch – can now simply press and hold the spacebar to magically move the cursor back and forth across the screen. You can even select text with this movement: put your keyboard in this pseudo trackpad mode, keep holding, and then tap somewhere else on the keyboard. This will allow you to select text as you move the cursor. (For 3D Touch users, you can do the same by pressing the keyboard, lifting it slightly, and then pressing again.)
