Send a Message to Your Toddler Via Alexa Using Mommy-Gram

You probably don’t want to give your toddler a cell phone, but text your child at home between appointments, or get the all-important “Where’s Cheerios ?!” a message via text message rather than a dozen phone calls could be pretty sweet.

Mommy-gram (and Daddy-gram) is an Alexa skill that essentially allows you to text messages with your child at home, without he or she having a phone or even needing to know how to write or read. …

From your child’s side, he or she will say to Alexa, “Ask Mommy to say Hello Mom,” or something like that. Mom will then receive a text message from Alexa with a written message. She can reply with a text message and her message will be read to the child through the Echo (or any other Alexa device) you have in your home.

The conversation may continue back and forth, or it may end there.

It’s definitely not a substitute for a phone call after school, but it can be a good way to check in while you’re on a date or in between appointments, without having to play a phone tag with your nanny. And it gives your young child the ability to send text messages in a safe and controlled way without handing over someone’s phone.
