Hydrate While You Soak up This Coconut Water Shake

Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week, we’re adding both hydration and a touch of tropical vibe to our drink with coconut water.

While coconut water doesn’t hydrate you any better than regular water in most cases, it still makes me feel like I’m a little more health conscious and sometimes manipulating my senses is half the battle. I also love the taste when paired with rum, especially when other fruity, tropical flavors are present.

Instead of further diluting the rum by adding juice in addition to the coconut water, I took a frozen juice concentrate that was delicious and very cheap. I chose a mixture of pineapple, orange and banana, but anyone can use any concentrate they want; Formally I give permission! To make this slightly healthier adult drink you will need:

  • 2 ounces of white rum
  • 2 ounces coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons of your favorite frozen juice concentrate

Add all the ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake until the shaker is too cold to shake again. Pour it into a glass filled with plenty of ice – crushed ice is especially fun – and let the tropical, hydrating sips fill you with a sense of well-being. Maybe sign up for a yoga membership you will never use; just go where the mood takes you.
