How to Control Alexa Using an IPhone

Amazon added voice control to its Android app in January and finally did the same for iPhone owners this week.

Now, if you have the app installed, it can handle the same commands you would give an Echo device. For example, you can ask your iPhone for a flash or turn on the lights in your living room.

Unlike the built-in smart assistants, using Alexa on your iPhone requires the app to be open, you can’t just yell at your phone like you do on the Echo. Instead, you need to press a button (the one in the middle) in the app to wake up the smart assistant before asking her what you want.

For casual trivial questions, it probably still makes sense to use Siri rather than Alexa for answers. However, if you have Alexa connected to your smart home, it can give you a different way to control things in places where you might not have echoes.
