Sinemia Offers an Alternative to MoviePass for Less Money

Sinemia, one of the MoviePass competitors we put together in December , is holding a sale at prices above current MoviePass prices. Right now, for $ 4.99, you can watch a movie a month. (You must pay $ 59.88 upfront per year.) Two films per month cost $ 6.99. Both are now cheaper than the lowest MoviePass plan – $ 7.99 a month for three movies. But the real benefit is that Sinemia lets you do a few things that MoviePass doesn’t.

According to the FAQ on the Sinemia homepage – and for some of you this is game-changing – you can watch any movie more than once, and now you can pre-purchase tickets in the app. With MoviePass, you have to be near a physical cinema, making it difficult to pre-purchase.

Of course, for many users (as well as those who watch more than two movies a month) MoviePass is still the best deal. Hopefully the competition will force MoviePass to find a level of service and stick to it, so signing up isn’t like playing the lottery where you would have to wait a month to get a better deal. And hopefully Sinemia will force MoviePass to allow users to re-watch movies or buy tickets in advance.

Both services can get better or worse. Sinemia is available in almost all cinemas, as is MoviePass. But if it becomes popular, don’t be surprised if Sinemia faces the same conflicts as MoviePass, battling theater chains and movie distributors. If we have learned anything from MoviePass it is that there is always a catch in these deals. And any of these services can go down even before your annual subscription expires.
