How to Charge IPhone Faster
Today’s iPhone rumors “I’ll believe it when I see it” aren’t about the iPhone itself, but about its charger – the most important accessory you’ll find in its carefully crafted packaging . Apple is rumored to be considering increasing the default charger power for iPhone 9 or iPhone X2: iPhones United (or whatever) from 5W to 18W.
I’m skeptical because I don’t think Apple gives a damn about helping its customers charge their devices faster than when it might charge more for adapters that support faster charging speeds.
After all, Apple could update all of its iPhone chargers right now – for example by tossing a faster 12W charger in the box for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X. The 29W charger is the perfect place for all three. iPhone, but I doubt Apple will ever show such generosity. After all, this is the same company asking an extra $ 20 for a different color keyboard .

If you’re wary of buying any third-party chargers – the fear is justified, although it’s probably safer to stick with a reputable brand rather than a fake eBay – here’s what Apple has to offer:

- Requires USB Type A to Lightning cable (included with iPhone).
- Charging your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X as slow as possible
- Don’t buy this (when Apple 12W USB Power Adapter costs the same)
Apple 12W USB Power Adapter ($ 19)
- Should be boxed with iPhone but not included (but ships with iPad or iPad Pro)
- Requires USB Type A to Lightning cable (included with iPhone)
- Works similar to the more powerful iPhone 8 chargers; slower for iPhone 8 Plus; and slowest for iPhone X (but still much faster than 5W charger)
- Best Budget Charger to Buy from Apple
Power adapter USB-C power 29 W (49 US dollars)
- Not included with your iPhone, but comes with a standard MacBook
- Requires USB Type C to Lightning cable (not included with iPhone; Apple from $ 19).
- The fastest charger for your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X more expensive chargers match it but don’t beat it
- Buy this even if you spend nearly $ 70 to double your iPhone’s charging capabilities.
61W USB-C Power Adapter ($ 69)
- This goes with your 13-inch MacBook Pro
- Requires USB Type C to Lightning cable (not included with iPhone; Apple from $ 19).
- Don’t buy it to charge your iPhone because it’s no faster than a 29W charger.
- If you are not using it to charge your MacBook Pro, feel free to use it to charge your iPhone.
87W USB-C Power Adapter ($ 79)
- This goes with your 15-inch MacBook Pro
- Requires USB Type C to Lightning cable (not included; Apple from $ 19)
- You really, really don’t have to buy this to charge your iPhone.
- You can use it to charge your iPhone, but that’s overkill, right?
What about wireless charging?
It’s easy. If you’ve updated your iPhone to iOS 11.2 – and there’s no reason not to, unless you have an older device that just ca n’t – you can now enjoy 7.5W wireless charging on your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus. and iPhone X. (That’s 2.5W more than pre-iOS 11.2 devices.)
So, when you’re looking for a Qi-compatible wireless charger, make sure it can deliver at least 7.5W for an iPhone. (Some might output 10W, but in small print, Android devices only support 10W and everything else is 5W.)
You can always get a wireless charger that can do more, but it will be future-proof. Your iPhone can only charge as quickly as if you connected it to an 87W USB-C power adapter, it won’t charge any faster than a 29W power adapter.
