Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Julia Child’s Favorite Martini

Happy Friday my friends and welcome back to Happy Hour with 3 Ingredients , a weekly drinks column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. I went to France to take cooking lessons here , so I thought I would celebrate with Julia Child’s favorite cocktail: an inverted martini.

There is controversy over the ratio of vermouth to gin in the drink, but Julia is said to have liked the very wet ratio: five parts vermouth and one part gin. It’s definitely a refreshing and simple drink, prepared and served in a wine glass over crushed ice. Given that this is mostly dry vermouth, you need to make sure you sue for a good one; Noylee Prat is Child’s choice. To make a refreshing, low-flavor drink, you will need:

  • 2 1/2 ounces of good dry vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce gin (I like to use something with a strong botanical flavor)
  • Lemon zest strip

Combine the vermouth and gin in a wine glass with a large handful of crushed ice and stir a little. Squeeze the butter from the zest onto the glass and rub it over your ribs before tossing it into it.
