Amazon Echo Adds Music, Radio & Podcasts to Alexa Routines

Alexa routines are a useful way to trigger many different actions with a single voice command on your Amazon Echo . Now they get even better, now that you can add specific songs, podcasts and radio shows.

The update should be coming to the Alexa app soon. Once you get it, here’s how to add music to your morning or evening routine.

If you’ve never set up a program for an Echo speaker, this is easy. Just launch the Alexa app, open the menu (top left button) and click Routines. Then press the big plus button to create a new one.

From here, the first thing you need to do is create a word or trigger phrase. For example, you might want your echo to turn on the lights, tell you the weather, and then play soft music when you say “Alexa, good morning” or “Alexa,I hate Mondays .”

Then click Add Action. You should see a list of icons including News, Smart Home, Weather, and a new Music option. In terms of music, you can select a song or playlist from many different services including Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio. It also supports podcasts and radio so you can start your day with your favorite news podcast.

Add as many actions as you like and then click Create to confirm the new procedure. He should be ready to go in a minute or two, and you’ll just need to remind yourself to have a friendly chat with Alexa while you enjoy your morning coffee.
