Over 5 Million Card Numbers Stolen From Lord & Taylor & Saks Fifth Avenue
If you’ve recently used your credit or debit card at Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks Off 5th store, you might want to start paying close attention to your statements (in fact, you should still pay attention regardless of where you shop).
The company said Sunday that a “well-known gang of cybercriminals” received more than 5 million credit and debit card numbers from customers, a feat it accomplished using software that was implanted in cash register systems, according to The New York Times. reports .
At the moment, the company determines too early which customers have been compromised, which means that right now, if you’ve made purchases in any of the stores over the past year, it makes sense to just assume that you were one of those customers. …
“We identified the problem and took steps to contain it. Once we clear the facts, we will promptly notify our clients and offer victims free privacy protection services, including credit and web monitoring. We encourage our customers to review their account statements and immediately contact their card issuers if they discover activity or transactions that they do not recognize, ” the company said in a statement on the matter.
Once the company gets to know the specific customers it affects, it enters into a personal contract with them and offers free privacy protection services, including credit and web monitoring.
The hack appears to have only affected card numbers, not social security numbers or driver’s licenses.
Most of the credit cards affected appear to have been used in Saks and Lord & Taylor stores, mainly in New York and New Jersey, from May 2017 to March 2018, according to The Times .
The company expected to share more information “in the coming days”.
