How to Keep Your Nose From Taking Selfies

It’s official: taking a selfie will definitely make you look a lot bigger than it actually is – up to 30%. That’s according to a recent study that compared photographs of people’s faces taken from different distances. But don’t worry if you mess up your selfie, there is an easy way to fix it.

A study published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery found that most smartphone cameras, especially the ones on the front of the phone, distort the face when taking close-ups. Dr Boris Paskhover, lead author of the study, explains :

“Patients, people, even my family should know that if you take a selfie, it’s not exactly what you look like … Selfies make your nose appear wider and fatter when it’s actually not and people like your nose less. … I am afraid that the current generation does not know. All they know is a selfie. “

So what can you do? Add distance between camera and face! It is so simple. Research showed that photos taken five feet away had no distortion, so the further you take your phone away from your face, the less distortion you will get in your photos.

If you have shorter arms, you can always try a selfie stick. (I know …) But otherwise, just flip your phone over and use a different camera instead. It doesn’t have the wide-angle fisheye effect of the front camera. Better yet, if someone is around, just ask them to take a picture for you. The problem has been resolved.
