Bypass

  • Tryg K and others recommend a drive along Highway 280 between San Jose and San Francisco, and not on the highway 101. The_Hero_We_Deserve gives a warning: “101 might be the best option, if the off-peak hours, and you go somewhere close to the highway and you are in a hurry. Cellular services for 280 seats can be a little unstable. ”
  • E = MC Hammered lists a few good places in downtown San Jose, “which sometimes get a bad reputation, but I really like it. There are farmers markets, craft fairs and events, grocery stores … almost every weekend. “
  • Cultural Brief: “Silicon Valley is home to some of the most beautiful suburban downtowns in the United States. Pick a city — Los Gatos, Burlingame, Willow Glen, Redwood City, and Mountain View come to mind — and all of the main street districts are reminiscent of the incredibly wealthy Star Hollows. Cafes, bookstores, restaurants, ice cream shops and boutiques. They are all good places to stroll with an overpriced latte or bean and display case. ” – Joey
  • “Before renting from Enterprise, check out Turo. (It’s like AirBnB, but for cars.) Silicon Valley tends to have a lot of interesting cars at reasonable prices. I think I remember seeing a lot of Tesla and even Porsche 911 that could be rented for a day, which were about the same as what you would pay for something like a charger at one of the national car rentals. “- bluepu4u

  • Orenci (Santa Clara): ramen noodles. Becomes insanely crowded. Only a certain number of tables are available. ” – MikePenceNoneTheRicherNowVP , who adds that you can reserve an 11-hour brunch table at 10:30, and lists a dozen other places, including …

  • The Duke of Edinburgh Pub on Wolfe in Cupertino. It used to be a large, little-known watering hole. Now that Apple’s new campus appears across the street, who knows? “- Earl_Grey

Task list

Thomas offers several hikes:

Suggest a hike or mountain bike ride to Alum Rock Park. Both the North and South Rim trails have stunning views of the entire valley, from South San Jose to Moffett Field and beyond on a truly clear day. But if you’re looking for something a little more challenging, try the Boccrado Loop Trail. And if you’re a little more hardcore, you can also try the Sierra Vista Trail (Boccrado and Sierra Vista join at the park).

Bluepu4u offers some local theater:

  • “Filoli Gardens is west of 280, along the Canadian Road in Woodside. It is a really beautiful place to visit and they change flowers all the time. There are also orchards and wildlife often. You can see lynxes and deer. ”- QADude
  • “The Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton is a great travel destination with incredible views with telescopes.” – Joe
  • “Mt. Umunhum Open Space Nature Reserve (Mount Umunhum Road): A recently discovered summit that once housed the Almaden Air Force radar station. Before that, it was the sacred peak of the Olone tribe. It has been partially restored for both stories and has a wonderful view of the valley from the south. Bring water and dress in layers, ”- I, Podius.
  • “Facebook HQ. If you know someone, ask them to invite you. You can see how the people who control the beast live. This is the main street of Disneyland, but it is closed inside an office complex in a swamp next to a poor, isolated area that is now rapidly improving. Good cultural experience “- APG
  • “You need to try Fry’s Electronics at least once. There is one off the Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale and one on E. Brokaw, near the airport (101 and 280 intersections) in the shape of a Mayan temple. ” – Earl_Grey
  • “Classic Films at Young Mr. Packard’s Wonderfully Refurbished Cinema.” – Flash

  • “Winchester Mystery House: Flashlight Tours Every Friday the 13th,” Isabella says.
  • San Jose Historical Museum: “An open park with historic buildings and vehicles. • Cantor Center for the Visual Arts and Rodin Sculpture Garden at Stanford University
  • Moffett Field Historical Society: “Small and a little dirty, but they have a bunch of really cool aviation artifacts, and the assistant professors are always incredibly passionate and informative. It also gives you the opportunity to see the Moffett Field itself, including the huge airship hangar. ”- Kevin Baker
