How to Revert the Snapchat App to the Pre-Redesigned Version

Snapchat recently released a redesign that its most loyal users didn’t like very much. In most applications, if you choose to update, you will be stuck with the new version until the developer releases something new.

In the case of the Snapchat redesign , however , Mashable found that there is a small workaround if you have an iPhone … at least for now.

The tip actually comes from Twitter user Claire James, who posted step-by-step instructions late Friday. Basically, you need to uninstall the app, turn off automatic updates for it, and then re-download it. When it’s time to sign in, tell me you forgot your password and follow the steps to get a new password. Once you have done that, log in and you will revert to the previous version.

Sounds like a crazy way to go back to the latest version of the app, but it actually works. However, it won’t work for long. If you force quit the app, then you will revert back to the updated version the next time you launch it, and Snapchat is working on a fix, so unless you go back before they do, you have no choice but to undergo a redesign (one of the reasons for disabling auto-updates).

Keep in mind that if you try this, deleting Snapchat will delete all of your memories. If you’d like to save them, head over to the Snapchat settings menu, then select Memories and Backup Progress to make sure you have everything. When everything is ready, you will see “Completed” on this page.
