How to Reply to a (Wanted) Nude Photo

Quietly, all around you, countless times a day, a woman sends a nude image of herself to the man she sees, and the man gives a shitty response that offends the woman’s feelings. (Presumably this happens in other gender combinations as well, but it’s certainly easy to find men who do this to women!) Writer Merritt K has categorized the shitty responses so you can avoid them and perhaps consider them worthy of more nude people. For instance:

The “smart boy” can be distinguished by the fact that he tries to seem not only disinterested, but also funny. For example, late 20-year-old Liz once received: “The NSA CAN SEE THIS, for your information.” “Some people want to say something smart, which usually ends up rude and not so smart,” she suggests as an explanation for this phenomenon. There is a time and a place, friends.

Sending a naked body is – for most people – a vulnerable act. When you get the naked body you wanted, your immediate responsibility is to reward that vulnerability with a positive. You can be smart later when feelings are not at stake.

Some shitty responses, at least subconsciously, are a way to divert attention and do things around you. Others are just bad improvisations. If you want to play a trick on a person who sent you a naked body, you have to tell him “yes”: agree with his premise, which almost always sounds like “I’m sexy,” and add to that.

Trust me on this one! I used to be a “smart boy” and even criticized the naked bodies of my friends. It didn’t bring me any more naked people! Unless you have a very specific, mutually recognized dynamic, make the mistake of being positive, uplifting, and making your partner feel very happy about sending you nude bodies. If you don’t really want nudity, then you really should just say so.
