Chrissy Teigen Reveals DIY Jalapeno Chips Code

Chrissy Teigen is good at food, especially in aromatic dishes that relieve mild itching. It makes sense, then, that she cracked the code of what is – at least to me – one of the most coveted tastes of potato chips: jalapeños.

As Elan Gale points out, this magical spice dust can be used not only for homemade chips, but for almost any food (just like our favorite tomato salt ):

The “mysterious spice” Teigen is talking about is most likely Torula yeast, a vegetarian-friendly powder that Umami also adds. ( This smoky taste is similar to bacon.) If you don’t have a food dehydrator, you can still use jalapeno powder. Simply chop the peppers, place them in one layer on a baking sheet and cook in the oven at 200 ℉ (or lower) with the oven door ajar until they are completely dry. Let them cool slightly, then grind them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle.

If you want to make jalapeno salt instead of pure pepper powder, simply coat the pepper slices with kosher salt before dehydrating, then chop the salted slices in a food processor. Either the seasoning can be mixed with fresh homemade potato chips , sour cream to make a savory sauce, or, you know, sprinkle on any food that needs a salty fire, which is pretty much any food.
