How to Protect Your Apple Devices From the Meltdown Security Breach
Following news that almost every processor on your computers and mobile devices has been vulnerable to attacks due to two security flaws – Meltdown and Specter – companies like Microsoft and Google have released security patches to improve the security of their operating systems and devices. … Apple is now joining the party by issuing a statement on its affected devices and instructing its users to update their devices.
How to update your devices
To keep your Apple products safe and protected from the Meltdown vulnerability, which uses a way to optimize processor performance, make sure you update your devices accordingly.
macOS : Make sure your Mac is up to date by clicking on the apple in the top left corner of the menu, choosing About This Mac, and checking if your version number is macOS 10.13.2 or later. If not, just click the Software Update button below your Mac’s system information summary.
iOS : Update your iOS device to iOS 11.2 by going to Settings> General> Software Update. Make sure your iOS device has 50% charge ( or plugged in ) before updating to reduce the risk of running out of juice during the update.
Apple TV : You can upgrade your Apple TV to tvOS 11.2. Go to Settings> System> Software Updates to check if you’re up to date and follow Apple’s instructions for updating older Apple TVs .
Apple Watch : Apple says your Apple Watch is unaffected by this flaw, so you don’t have to worry about it.
Specter Updates Coming Soon
While the Specter vulnerability is harder to defend against, Apple says it will update its Safari browser to protect users from certain exploit methods on macOS and iOS. tvOS and watchOS will receive updates as Apple tests methods to protect its products from the Specter security vulnerability.
