Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Smoky and Warming Mezcal Margarita
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we’re creating a drink that’s perfect for those times when you can’t leave your home due to ice, snow and bomb cyclones.
It seems like a lot of people are either physically stuck in their homes or just squatting because it is very cold in most parts of the country. Even in Florida, where I experienced a 90 degree Christmas, there was snow that is equally magical and unsettling.
In any case, if you are going to be stuck indoors, you will need a drink and it should be a party drink. Traditional margarita seems a bit too summer for a snowy party, but the addition of smoky mescal makes it more suitable for cold weather. To make it you will need:
- 1 1/2 ounce mescal (I used blanco)
- 30g fresh lime juice (or stale if stuck inside and already bottled)
- 3/4 ounce agave syrup (made with 2 parts agave nectar to 1 part water)
Mix everything in an ice shaker (or in one large ice cube) and shake until cool. Strain into a compartment glass and drink until you stop stirring. If you’re still bored, post some risky texts. It always brings life to life.
