Determine If You Are Too Tall to Ride With This App

There are currently many different options for determining if you are too drunk to drive, but what about if you’ve smoked too much weed?

Driving high while high can be dangerous. Now that more and more states are legalizing recreational marijuana, they also have to come up with ways to test if a driver might not be sober enough to be on the street.

In Oregon, this takes the form of a field sobriety test. You know, what you always see in movies, where you have to walk in a straight line and put your finger to your nose. It is designed to measure your reaction time. If you fail, you may need to have a urine test, which can yield positive results and bring you DUI if you have been using cannabis in the past few weeks rather than hours.

It is definitely an imperfect system. A system that one college professor saw as an opportunity to create something better. Enter DRUID . This is a $ 99 Android app that estimates your reaction time in a series of tests that take two or five minutes, after which you are given an app recommendation on whether you can drive.

For starters, if you think it is not right for you to drive, you simply should not drive.

However, if you’ve smoked a few hours ago, think you’re okay, and just want to check three times before heading out, then this might be a decent place to start.

I downloaded it and tried it completely sober, and (miraculously) got a grade that said I could actually drive. The tests involve performing simple instructions such as following your finger in a circle on the screen, counting the number of squares that appear, and touching different points on the screen when prompted. There is nothing difficult in this, but even sober, some of the tasks seemed difficult to me.

The app also uses some kind of caveman font that I don’t like and looks like something a stoner can do, but I digress.

However, I think it will really come in handy. Weed slows you down, sometimes to the point (at least for me) that I don’t understand how compromised my reaction time is. It was definitely a problem for a sober person to focus and follow directions. Highly high, I think I can immediately understand that I shouldn’t get off the couch after completing at least one of these tasks, I would not need to finish it, and the application told me to stay put.
